When I initially picked up my camera in 2011, my only goal was to take better pictures of my children. I didn’t know what that meant exactly back then, but I quickly realized that I didn’t want to put my children in fields just before sunset. Not only did they find that annoying (and often wouldn’t cooperate), those weren’t the kind of images they would look back on a remember their life. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with portraiture… it’s just not for me. I want my children to look back on the images I make of them and our life, and recall their own memories of how things looked, smelled, tasted, and felt.
